Welcome to the 54th annual meeting of the International Society of Oxygen Transport to Tissue (ISOTT). We are excited to bring together our global community of scientists, engineers, innovators, and clinicians in Yale University at New Haven, Connecticut (June 13-16, 2027). This conference is an opportunity to share new ideas, discoveries, and collaborations focused on advancing the frontiers of oxygen in biology and medicine.
\nThe study of oxygen transport to tissue continues to advance as emerging tools and integrative approaches reshape our understanding of physiology in health and disease. Modern oxygen sensing technologies, combined with quantitative assessments of oxygenation in tissue and blood, enable precise evaluation of metabolic demand across organs. These measurements increasingly inform mathematical modeling of oxygen transport, providing mechanistic insights that bridge molecular, cellular, and whole\u2011body physiology. Parallel innovations in blood substitutes and therapeutics are expanding possibilities for managing tissue hypoxia, especially in acute and chronic clinical settings.
\nA new generation of vascular and metabolic imaging tools – spanning near\u2011infrared spectroscopy, fluorescence imaging, phosphorescence imaging, functional ultrasound imaging, electron paramagnetic resonance, positron emission tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and spectroscopic imaging – now offers unprecedented multimodal visualization of oxygen delivery and utilization. These platforms support applications ranging from healthy brain function and cognitions to muscle and exercise physiology to neonatal and fetal medicine, and from tumor microenvironment characterization to the management of cancer, stroke, hemorrhage, epilepsy, and traumatic brain injury.
\nBeyond traditional biomedical domains, oxygen\u2011related measurements are increasingly relevant in food science, where metabolic and oxidative processes shape nutrition, quality, and safety. Across all these fields, artificial intelligence and machine learning of physiological systems are transforming data interpretation and prediction, enabling researchers to integrate complex, multimodal datasets at scale.
\nTogether, these advances are bringing us closer to more personalized treatments, better wound healing, and therapies that help restore healthy oxygen levels in the body. The ISOTT 2027 meeting celebrates the shared progress of our diverse scientific community and highlights the innovative tools that are driving the next generation of discoveries.<\/p>\n
